Large U.S. Government Markets in IT and Advanced Security: Solutions Antenne Pilot Project Assisting Quebec SME’S in Penetrating These Markets
Procurement by U.S. federal, state and local governments in Information Technology and Advanced Security Systems reached more then $130 billion, a market 20 times larger than the equivalent Canadian market. More than 70% of this market is accessible to Canadian companies (no restriction related to the Buy American Act or Set Aside for Small Business). Many Quebec based companies are more inclined to sell into European markets rather than to sell to the closer U.S. market. Solutions Antenne, a MERX business partner and a leading aggregator and value added reseller of Canadian government procurement information, has developed a Pilot Project to help introduce Quebec companies to U.S. government procurement.
This two year project is partly funded by MDEIE (Ministère du Développement Économique de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation du Québec) and Economic Development Canada. MERX works with Solutions Antenne to provide procurement search capabilities within the US Tenders service to search for U.S. opportunities at the federal, state and local level. The goal of this project is to help Quebec companies target industries to increase exports to the U.S. government.
Participating companies in the pilot project are in targeted industries (selected from a market study done in 2006) that match Quebec’s leading edge technological capacities and in sectors where U.S. governments do substantial acquisitions. The targeted industries are: Knowledge Management, Geomatics, Simulation and Modeling as well as Advanced Security (infrastructure protection and military and civilian surveillance). Companies in the pilot project must also commit to undertake sufficient marketing efforts to sell their products and services to the U.S. government.
Consulting and marketing services will be offered individually to companies by Mrs. Judy Bradt, CEO of Summit Insight. On a limited basis, Solutions Antenne will share 50% of the costs with the participating company.
